DOCTOR T

My name is Jose Teixeira. I was born and raised in an island off the coast of Lisbon called Madeira, also known as the Pearl of the Atlantic. I attended medical school at Universidade NOVA de Lisboa in Portugal. I graduated first in a class of 450 students. After completing a 2 year public health rotation in Portugal, I moved to New York City to undergo Internal Medicine residency training at Interfaith Medical Center in Brooklyn. I then completed a fellowship in cardiology and electrophysiology with the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) at Deborah Heart and Lung Center.

Subsequently I joined the University of South Dakota School of Medicine where I became Chief of Cardiology. Few years later I moved to the Black Hills of South Dakota where I and others formed a cardiology group called the Heart Doctors. I spent my career there as an electrophysiologist.

After spending few decades doing conventional medicine I realized we are very good at putting out the fires by treating heart attacks, stroke, and peripheral vascular disease, but we are not very good at preventing them.

In the last decade I discovered lifestyle medicine and its ability to prevent, help treat, and reverse disease. I become board certified in lifestyle medicine in 2019.

My mission is to empower people to take control of their health and prevent getting sick in the first place. Lifestyle medicine is the solution to our individual health issues but also the solution to our health care crisis as a nation. If we adopt lifestyle changes we can add years to our life and life to our years.
